A Bridge to WildCare’s Future
Over the past months, work has proceeded on WildCare's new facility at our original site at 76 Albert Park Lane.
The historic building was moved (see that amazing video here!), and then moved again. It now rests in its permanent location at the front of the site.
Construction crews completed clearing, grading, deep foundation work and many other important steps, and now the site begins to take shape before our eyes!
Placement of the bridge offers the most tangible view yet of how WildCare’s new Wildlife Hospital and Nature Education Center will sit on the property.
Take a scenic flight across the bridge and over WildCare's new facility in the video above!
Visitors will experience a wide view of Mahon Creek and the new WildCare building as they walk across the new bridge, along with excellent opportunities to sight wildlife in the creek.
In the many years WildCare has been at that site, wildlife like Mallard Ducks, Green Herons, Black-crowned Night Herons and even otters and the rare Leopard Shark have been spotted in the creek.
Planned work to naturalize the creek sides with native vegetation should increase the opportunities for wildlife sightings from the bridge once WildCare's new facility is open in autumn of 2026.
Cahill Contractors, who is building WildCare’s new facility, faced a tight deadline to complete the creekside work and install the new bridge before the annual creek work moratorium takes effect on October 15th.
This state-wide moratorium restricts construction activity within approximately 25 feet of a waterway between October 15th and June 15th in order to protect sensitive riparian habitats from runoff and erosion due to winter rains.
The next steps for the project will be to continue vertical construction on the walls of what will eventually be our new Wildlife Hospital facility, and begin the restoration of the historic building which now sits at the front of the property.
Building Progress
The last six months have seen incredible changes to WildCare's site at 76 Albert Park Lane! Meanwhile, our work to help and heal animals, advocate for wildlife, and teach children to love nature has continued uninterrupted at our Interim location at 37 Schmidt Lane in San Rafael.
