WildCare’s Move + Orphaned Baby Squirrel in Care

WildCare’s Move + Orphaned Baby Squirrel in Care

As you likely know, WildCare is in the process of moving out of our venerable facility on Albert Park Lane in San Rafael, California so we can rebuild a new, state-of-the-art wildlife hospital and nature education center at this site.

To do that, we have to move the entire organization to a temporary transition location, where we'll be for two years while the new facility is being built.

Moving is hard, but also exciting! Click to see photos of the move in progress!

To make moving the Wildlife Hospital possible, WildCare sent most of our current wildlife patients to our partner organizations in the region, and redirected incoming rescued animals to those same wonderful organizations to whom we are incredibly grateful.

Moving AND Feeding Baby Squirrels? Only at WildCare!

Even as we're completing our complicated move to Transition, and despite the fact that most of our wildlife patients have been transferred to our partner organizations, we have had to keep a few animals in care. For instance, it would have been too stressful to transport our mature songbirds and raccoon patients who are almost ready to be released.

We're also seeing the "second wave" of orphaned baby squirrels coming in, and we currently have 41 baby squirrels in offsite foster care with our trained Squirrel Foster Care experts.

In the video below you can see one of our baby squirrels getting his mid-day feed in the former Education Department offices at WildCare, now mostly being used to house the foster care babies of WildCare staff and volunteers who are making the move happen.

Moving the Wildlife Hospital to Transition

WildCare's Terwilliger Nature Education Programs moved to WildCare Transition at the end of August, and staff, volunteers, and Wildlife Ambassadors have settled in well.

Next, it was time for the Wildlife Hospital to make the move.

See photos of the packing process below! The movers will be here on Wednesday, September 18 and 19... we'll post more photos as they become available.
